ATS Resume Builder

Build resumes recruiters can read. See every gap before you send it.

Create an ATS-readable resume, compare it against a real job description, review the evidence behind every requirement, and fix weak sections — without handing over control of what your resume claims.

ATS Resume Studio workspace

Opening your workspace…

Three scores, no mystery number

Every point is attributed to a check you can read.

Three scores, because they answer three different questions and have three different fixes. A well-written resume in an unreadable layout and an unreadable resume that is beautifully laid out would both score the same on one blended number, and neither owner would learn anything.

These figures are not illustrations. The shipped engines measured them when this page rendered, on the sample résumé and posting shown below. It is one document's result and not a typical one — the sample is well formatted, which is why the two document scores sit high and the match against a real posting does not.

Each card lists five of its categories, the ones that lost the most points first — a row at full marks means nothing was dropped there. The workspace lists every category in all three scores, with the evidence behind each one.

The six steps behind those numbers

One document, nothing discarded between steps

  1. BuildWork one section at a time in a focused editor, with the page rendering beside you at real paper dimensions.
  2. TargetPaste a job description. The posting is tiered into essential, desirable and responsibilities before a single term is extracted.
  3. MatchEvery requirement is mapped to the line of your resume that evidences it — or reported as having none.
  4. ImproveWork a prioritised queue where each entry names the underlying issue, quotes the text, and says what it is worth.
  5. VerifyRead the document as a text extractor receives it, block by block, with the diagnostics that produced each verdict.
  6. ExportPreflight checks run before the file is produced, then PDF, DOCX or plain text with a filename a recruiter can file.

See what the parser sees

Your résumé, as plain text, block by block.

An applicant tracking system does not see your layout. It sees a stream of text and tries to work out where each section starts. Both panels below come from the same sample document — the left is what prints, the right is what the extractor hands over.

What the extraction found

Each row is a real diagnostic from the same pass, and 2 of them are warnings rather than failures: the sample has no Projects and no Certifications content, so those headings are never emitted — which is a finding, not a bug in the sample.

Match evidence, not just keywords

Every requirement is answered with a line of your résumé, or with nothing.

A percentage tells you there is a problem. A matrix tells you which requirement it is, what the posting said, and which of your own sentences answers it. The pair below is a deliberate near-miss: the same person genuinely fits some of this role and genuinely does not fit the rest.

6 of 25 extracted requirements are shown, unevidenced ones first and no more than three per verdict, so one verdict cannot fill the list — this sample produced 2 of the 4 verdicts the matrix can report. The match compares text, not meaning: a requirement you meet in different words reads as not evidenced, which is exactly why every row names the term instead of only moving a percentage.

Improve without inventing your career

A rewrite that adds a number you never earned is not an improvement.

This is the one place a résumé tool can do real damage. Generated text is fluent, and fluent text invents metrics: a percentage, a team size, a budget. So every suggestion is diffed against your own document before you see it, and anything new is named. The warning below is produced by the live detector when this page renders — it is not a mock-up of a warning.

Your bullet

Built a reporting dashboard for the operations team.

Accepted: nothing new claimedSafe

Designed and shipped an internal reporting dashboard used for recurring operational reporting.

Why this change
Adds ownership and names the outcome without introducing a figure the resume does not support.
Supported by
Experience — Finlyt Technologies

The detector found no unsupported claims in this rewrite, so it can be accepted in one click.

Held back: unsupported claimBlocked from auto-apply

Built a reporting dashboard that cut processing time by 35% for a team of 40.

  • Unsupported35%metric

Your resume does not contain the figure 35%, so this number is not supported by anything you have written.

Your four choices

  1. Provide evidence
  2. Remove the claim
  3. Edit
  4. Keep anyway

“Keep anyway” exists because you may have the evidence and simply not have written it down yet. It is a decision you make, on the record — never a default.

One profile, many applications

One career profile. A resume for every opportunity.

Keep everything you have done in a master resume, then branch a targeted copy for each application. The copy is a deep copy — editing it can never reach back into the profile it came from, which is the whole reason to keep one.

Master resume

Every role, project and certification you have

Nothing is trimmed here. This is the version you keep everything in, including the roles a particular employer does not need to read about.

  • Northwind Foods — Supply Chain Data Analyst

    Trimmed to the posting's essentials

  • Contoso — Operations Analyst

    Same profile, different emphasis

  • Fabrikam — Demand Planner

    Forecasting projects promoted

  • A branch is a deep copy. Editing one of these can never reach back into the profile it came from — and each one keeps its own target job, its own scores and its own version history.

Premium templates

8 presentations, and a machine can read all of them.

The free builder includes eight templates (8), and each remains single-column because a side rail is a common reason a parser reads a resume out of order. A verified ATS Template & Role Pack purchase can unlock 12 additional template families; it does not replace or restrict the free set.

The Free and Pro labels come from the registry's planned tier mapping. Every template is usable in the workspace today — nothing here is behind a payment or an account.

“All” matches 8 of the 8 templates; 6 are shown here. Every one is in the Design view.

Export and privacy

Checked before the file is written. Nothing leaves this tab unless you ask.

Choose A4 or US Letter, then export. PDF is produced by your browser's own print engine from the same page you have been looking at, so the text stays selectable and the line breaks are the ones you approved. DOCX is a real Word document built from your content, not a renamed PDF. The eight included templates and their exports remain free and unwatermarked; an optional Career Pack adds separate, paid template families.

  • Runs in your browserBuilding, scoring and exporting need no server
  • No account requiredYour draft stays in this browser
  • Every AI change reviewableCurrent, suggested, why, evidence
  • Four export formatsPDF, DOCX, TXT and a JSON backup
  • PDF

    Recommended for applications

Written here from the page you see, with the text embedded as text — so a parser reads words, not a picture of them.

  • DOCX

    Editable Microsoft Word document

A real Word file built from your content, not a PDF renamed. Some employers ask for this specifically.

  • TXT

    Plain text ATS version

The exact text shown in ATS Read View. Useful for pasting into an application form.

  • JSON

    Backup you can reload here

The full document including template and settings. Not a resume format — a way to move your draft between browsers.

What preflight looks at

  • Whether there is anything to export at all
  • Content sitting across a page boundary
  • Whether the text will be extractable
  • The three core headings a parser looks for
  • Name, email and phone, and whether they parse
  • Links that resolve to a readable destination
  • Characters an extractor may drop or replace
  • One check for the format: the page box for PDF, the font for DOCX

The page-boundary check depends on the sheet having been laid out, so until you have opened the preview it reports “not measured yet” rather than showing a tick it has not earned. The eighth depends on the format you chose: a PDF has its page box confirmed, and a DOCX is checked for whether Word actually has your font.

What a preflight cannot promise. These checks describe the document this workspace renders. No resume format can guarantee compatibility with a particular applicant tracking system, and a file edited in another program after export is outside what we can check.

A résumé is the most sensitive document most people own

So this is a list of exactly which bytes move and when, rather than a paragraph about how much we care. Importing a file and the optional AI features are the only two things here that reach a server; everything else — building, all three scores, the matrix, the read view and every export — happens in this tab.

  • What stays in this browser

    • Everything you type. The resume, the target job description and every setting live in this tab's local storage under mf-resume-studio, plus the active resume mirrored to mf-resume-draft.
    • All three scores, the requirement matrix, the ATS Read View and the improvement queue. Those engines run in this tab and make no network request.
    • PDF, DOCX and TXT export. The files are produced in your browser from the document you can see.
  • What reaches a server, and only if you ask

    • Importing a resume file uploads it so the text can be extracted, because PDF and DOCX parsing needs libraries that do not run in a browser tab.
    • The AI review and the AI rewrite send the text you selected to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI API.
    • Nothing is stored. The request is processed in memory and the response returned; there is no resume record to delete because none is written.
  • What never happens

    • No account is required for the eight free templates. A verified account is required only to activate optional paid template families; the resume itself still does not sync — use Download JSON as the backup.
    • No resume content is included in analytics. The page may record aggregate use, and paid-pack activation or template and role selection may record the selected identifier with your consent.
    • No automatic AI. Nothing is sent anywhere while you type, and no suggestion is written into your resume without you accepting it.
Retention
AI requests are processed in memory and not written to our database. Motifuse disables OpenAI response storage; OpenAI's API data-usage terms still govern provider handling.
Deletion
Clearing this browser's site data removes the resume completely. There is nothing on our side to request the deletion of.
Local storage
The two keys above are the only places your resume exists. Private browsing discards them when the window closes.
AI allowance
The server enforces configurable daily and monthly allowances for guests, signed-in Free users and Pro users, plus per-feature and per-network rate limits.

How the scores are calculated

The method, and where it stops being reliable.

Every category in the workspace says whether it was measured from your document or estimated by a rule of thumb. That distinction is the whole methodology, and the notes below are the ones worth reading before you trust a number.

  • There is no single ATS

Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, Lever and iCIMS parse differently and rank differently, and most employers configure their own rules on top. Any tool claiming a universal ATS score is describing its own checklist. So is this one — the difference is that ours is published, and every check tells you what it measured.

  • Measured versus heuristic

Each category says which it is. “Measured” means the answer is read off your document or the extracted text — how many roles carry complete dates, which headings the reader recognised. “Heuristic” means it is a rule of thumb, like estimating page count from word count. Both are useful; only one is a fact.

  • Known false positives

Bullet detection switches mode when a document has fewer than three marker lines, and then scores ordinary prose lines as bullets — so a densely written resume can be judged on sentences that are not bullets at all. The page estimate is words divided by 480, which the rendered page count in the canvas supersedes. Skills written as one long line count as one bullet. Where a check can be wrong, it says so.

  • What the scores cannot do

They cannot predict whether you will be shortlisted, cannot see how a particular employer has configured their system, and cannot check whether anything you have written is true. A resume that scores well is readable and specific. Whether it is the right resume for the job is a judgement, and it stays yours.

Four limits stated plainly

  • No guarantee of passing any ATS

No resume format can guarantee compatibility with a particular applicant tracking system, an interview, or employment.

  • Exports are checked, not verified

Preflight describes the document this workspace renders. A file edited in another program after export is outside what we can check.

  • AI can be wrong

Suggestions are generated text. Every one is diffed against your resume for unsupported claims, but the check is pattern matching, not fact checking — read what you accept.

  • This browser only

There is no account and no sync. Download the JSON backup before clearing site data or switching machines.
